La Mambanegra es una poderosa orquesta de música latina. Su veneno tiene como sustancia la salsa neoyorkina de los años 70s y a su vez integra elementos de la música jamaiquina, el funk y el hip-hop.
Inspirada en la historia de un héroe anónimo y mítico del Barrio Obrero, quien tuvo una serie de aventuras fantásticas en Cali, La Habana y Nueva York, esta orquesta trae un nuevo concepto de la salsa y la música latina para el mundo.

Evocando la memoria de su bisabuelo, un mulato del barrio obrero de Cali, que se fue de polizón desde el Puerto de Buenaventura hasta Nueva York, dispuesto a montar una orquesta de música latina. No contó con suerte y antes de llegar a La Habana fue arrojado al mar. Allí lo rescató un “Babalawo” (Sacerdote de la religión Yoruba) y lo dotó de poderes sobrenaturales.
En esta mágica y real historia, apareció el legendario Chano Pozo quien le regaló una flauta traversa de ébano forjada en África, llamada: Mambanegra. De ahí salió el nombre de su orquesta, creada en los años cuarenta y que logró montar en La Gran Manzana. Siete décadas después, Jacobo Vélez retoma esa historia y se transforma en el “callegüeso” y “La Mambanegra”.
