She began composing on her own with her guitar at the age of nine. As a young woman she was a schoolteacher by vocation, an occupation that left a permanent mark on her attitude to music and life.  <\/p>\nBrought up by the River Paran\u00e1, she started out cultivating the chamam\u00e9\u2014a danceable genre of Argentine folk music\u2014and later broadened her horizons to zambas, chacareras, huaynos, cuecas and any popular Latin American rhythms that came her way.  <\/p>\nIn the late 1970s she was the voice of the tango maestro \u00c1stor Piazzolla\u2019s Quintet. \nAfter devoting herself to her career as a soloist, she was awarded the coveted Consagraci\u00f3n Prize at the 1984 Cosqu\u00edn National Folk Festival, the most important of its kind in Argentina. \nIt is a hard task to keep track of the Gold and Platinum Discs she received in the mid-1980s when she used to fill the Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires.  <\/p>\nMoving on to pastures new, in a career spanning over 30 years, she has been a constant presence at the thousand festivals across the wide open expanses of Argentina, while still finding time to fit in flights to performances in San Diego, Houston, Washington, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Santiago de Compostela, Paris, Brussels, Cuba, Mexico D.F., Chiapas, Monterrey, Antwerp, Zurich, Barcelona, Matar\u00f3, Stockholm, Amsterdam, S\u00e3o Paulo, Berlin, Seville, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Barcelona, Saragossa, Quito and Asuncion.  <\/p>\nShe has authored around 500 songs, recorded by the most celebrated artists of Latin America, including the legendary Mercedes Sosa.  <\/p>\nShe has recorded 22 albums. \nShe has been made a Distinguished Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires. \nShe is currently director of the Our Children Cultural Space (ECuNHi), run by the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo. \nShe is a board member of the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers (SADAIC) and the Argentine Association of Interpreters (AADI). \nShe has also headed the City of Buenos Aires Directorate General of
